How to say “It’s up to you” in Russian

Three ways to hand over a decision — one of which can come across as washing your hands of it.

Quick answer

Как хоти́те.

kak khótite — plus тебе́ реша́ть and the tone warning

The options

Как хоти́те.As you wish. — polite
Как хо́чешь.As you like. — informal
Тебе́ реша́ть.It’s your decision.
Реша́й сам / сама́.You decide.
На ва́ше усмотре́ние.At your discretion. — formal

Watch the tone

Как хо́чешь said flatly, after a disagreement, means “do what you like, I’m done arguing” — exactly like the English “fine, whatever”. Said warmly, it is a genuine offer. If you want to be sure it lands well, add something: Как хо́чешь, мне правда всё равно́.

реша́ть + dative

Тебе́ реша́ть is literally “to you to decide” — a dative plus an infinitive, with no verb “to be”. The same shape gives вам выбира́ть (yours to choose) and мне идти́? (should I go?).

What you hear back

Тогда́ пойдём туда́.Then let’s go there.
Хорошо́, я вы́беру.Fine, I’ll choose.
Нет, скажи́ ты.No, you say.

Typical mistakes

Э́то на тебе́.

A word-for-word “up to you” does not exist.
