Which form to learn first
люблю́. Я тебя́ люблю́ is the sentence everyone wants on day one — and it also teaches you the accusative pronoun тебя́.
люби́ть or нра́вится?
Люби́ть is a lasting feeling: Я люблю́ джаз — jazz is part of who I am. Нра́виться is a reaction, often to one thing right now: Мне нра́вится э́та пе́сня — I like this song. And watch the grammar: with нра́виться you go into the dative and the thing becomes the subject.
Typical mistakes
Я лю́блю.
Я люблю́.
The я form is stressed on the ending. Everything after it moves back to the stem.
Я люби́ю.
Я люблю́.
Verbs with б, п, в, ф, м in the stem insert an л in the я form: люби́ть → люблю́, спать → сплю.
