Describing someone
Ка́рие is only for eyes
Russian has a dedicated word for brown eyes: ка́рие. Brown hair is тёмные or кашта́новые, and a brown coat is кори́чневое. Using кори́чневые глаза́ is a classic learner marker.
Being polite about it
Russian is direct about appearance, but there are still softer words: по́лный rather than то́лстый (fat), в возрасте rather than ста́рый. Худо́й is neutral; стро́йный (slim) is a compliment.
