Quick answer
The regular plural is -ы / -и. These nouns use -ья, -а́ or a completely different stem.
The -ья group
| Singular | Plural | Genitive plural |
|---|---|---|
| брат | бра́тья | бра́тьев |
| друг | друзья́ | друзе́й |
| сын | сыновья́ | сынове́й |
| муж | мужья́ | муже́й |
| стул | сту́лья | сту́льев |
| де́рево | дере́вья | дере́вьев |
Mostly family and a couple of objects. Note how друг changes its consonant as well: друзья́.
The stressed -а́ group
| Singular | Plural | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| дом | дома́ | houses |
| го́род | города́ | cities |
| учи́тель | учителя́ | teachers |
| до́ктор | доктора́ | doctors |
| по́езд | поезда́ | trains |
| глаз | глаза́ | eyes |
The stress moves to the ending, which is what makes до́ма (at home) and дома́ (houses) a classic stress pair.
