Verbs of beginning, continuing and finishing — начина́ть, продолжа́ть, зака́нчивать — all require an imperfective infinitive. There are no exceptions.

Typical mistakes

Я продолжа́ю вы́учить.

Я продолжа́ю учи́ть.

The infinitive after продолжа́ть must be imperfective.

Дождь продолжа́ет.

Дождь продолжа́ется.

Without an object the reflexive form is needed.
