The odd-number rule
Give three, five or seven flowers — never two, four or six. Even numbers belong to funerals and memorials. Above about fifteen stems nobody counts, but below that the rule is absolute. Carnations in particular are associated with war memorials.

The recipient is dative: ей.

дать is neutral handing over; presents use дари́ть.
